About this video
On October 9, Donald Trump announced a deal with Vladimir Putin: Russia would supply diesel to the United States, and the US Treasury suspended sanctions on Russian diesel until April 2027. Days later, Trump waived the new Russia sanctions in the Graham Act, a law Congress had passed with large bipartisan majorities. He also asked Ukraine to stop striking Russian refineries.
Ukraine paused for three days. During that time, Russia hit all three of Kyiv's main heat and power plants, and 600,000 people lost power. On October 15, Zelensky ended the pause: "We're done." On October 21, US envoy Steve Witkoff met Putin in St Petersburg and thanked him for the diesel deal. Hours later, Russian strikes killed at least four people in Kyiv.
In this video: what the deal actually says, the American case for it, whether it can lower fuel prices, whether Russia can even deliver, who really gains, how Washington and Europe reacted, and what it means for Ukraine's refinery campaign. Every claim is labelled as confirmed, claimed, or unverified.
